Start with the number that makes this train unlike anything else in the fleet. When the first full Xinjiang circuit left Chengdu on 28 August 2026, one hundred and nine guests were aboard. Sixty-five of them, 59.6 percent, came from outside the mainland: the United States, Canada, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, and travellers from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Across the season's bookings the operator puts the overseas share near seventy percent. A Chinese luxury train that sells most of its seats to the world deserves a close look at what the world says about it.
The reporter who rode the August departure spent his opening paragraphs on the outside of the train, and guests photograph it the same way: blue carriages lined in gold with the peaks of Sichuan, Xiling, Gongga, Mount Siguniang, running the length of the train. Inside, the theme continues in timber and woven bamboo, with lotus-shaped lamps overhead. The detail reviewers keep repeating: more than half the carriages are not bedrooms at all, they are shared space, the Gold Panda restaurant, a music bar, a mobile cinema, which is why the train feels uncrowded at a full load of one hundred and eight.
The sixteen-day itinerary is the other half of the pitch: twenty-one sites, and eight nights in five-star ground hotels so that the train handles the long western distances while the hotels handle the places rails cannot reach. Every meal, every transfer, every ticket is inside the fare. Guests describe the consequence the same way the operator does: you hand over the trip and stop managing it.
Eighteen panda butlers, seven vacation ambassadors, eight chefs and an onboard medical team ride along. But the numbers matter less than the habits guests recount. The butlers learn your dietary restrictions and repeat them back at every meal. On excursion days the crew fills your thermos with hot water so it is waiting when you stagger back aboard. And the detail that has become this train's signature in Chinese write-ups: if the butler thinks you are not sleeping well, warm milk arrives at your door before the night's run.
"This fare could keep me in a Singapore hotel for a long time. But it was worth it. They arrange everything; there is nothing to worry about."

The overseas guest profile is no accident. A party of seven from Taiwan chose the train for their first Xinjiang journey together. Another Taiwan group admitted they had spent months worrying that the food and facilities would not suit their elders, then reported, mid-trip, that everything from meals to activities had put that worry away. On a June departure the crew folded the Dragon Boat Festival into the journey with sachet-making and dumplings; on the September departure that straddled the Mid-Autumn Festival, vacation ambassadors ran a poetry-and-lantern gathering in the lounge car, and guests described handling the festival with their hands, not just watching it.
Luxury-train travellers compare receipts, and on this train they have international material to work with. The China Economic Weekly reporter did the division: the all-inclusive fare works out to roughly seven to ten thousand US dollars per person. Japan's Seven Stars in Kyushu charges about eighteen thousand US dollars for a single-occupancy journey, with a lottery for tickets. Against the world's heritage trains, guests conclude they are paying mid-range money for a top-tier format, which is precisely the argument the overseas booking share is making with its wallet. The train's industry recognition has followed the same curve: an international railway union jury gave its Panda-branded programme a special award in recent seasons.
The train's parent brand has been accumulating this verdict since 2021: more than one hundred seventy departures and fifty thousand guests, seventy percent of them over sixty, from American and Canadian tour groups to Southeast Asian independent travellers.
