The Beautiful Sky Road Express has entered service on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, becoming China's first dedicated Tibet cultural tourism train. It is built around the specific demands of the plateau: pressurised carriages, oxygen at every berth, and a pace designed for acclimatisation as the line climbs past 5,000 metres.
Built for the altitude
Two panoramic observation cars carry floor-to-ceiling windows, and pulse oxygen is available at every berth, so the climb to Lhasa is comfortable rather than merely endured. Tibetan design runs through the carriages, making the journey an introduction to the culture it is travelling toward.
