Status: 2027 first season, not yet ranked. Jinxiu Dongfang has not carried paying guests and is not part of our published fleet order. We rank a train only once it has completed a season with confirmed dates and confirmed fares, so this page carries the specifications as announced rather than a position in the fleet ranking. Every figure below is subject to the railway's final operating plan and to the signed travel contract. We will add it to the sequence once the 2027 plan is settled. For what this train means and what we could not verify, read our 2027 debut analysis.

Jinxiu Dongfang is the newest and smallest member of the Panda Express family, a China Railway Chengdu Group product built around a Han and Tang dynasty design programme rather than the panda motif its siblings use. Eighteen cars carry 66 guests. That is fewer than half the capacity of Panda Express · Chengdu on the same length of train, and it is the number the whole product is built around.

The train is marketed under the Panda Roam (攀达漫迹) brand, which handles promotion and distribution for the panda family. As with every train on this site, we list the railway as the operator rather than the distribution brand. China Expresses is an authorised travel curator and booking partner for the panda fleet, and can hold a cabin on your preferred 2027 departure once allocation opens.

Sixty-Six Seats Across Eighteen Cars

Every luxury train in China is a compromise between how many people it carries and how much room and attention each one gets. Most of the fleet resolves that somewhere between 60 and 132 guests. Jinxiu Dongfang resolves it at 66, on the same eighteen cars its siblings use, by putting three cabins in a sleeping car where the Chengdu puts four or five.

The consequences are concrete rather than marketing. Three cabins per car means a wider corridor, a larger cabin footprint of around 15 square metres, and fewer people queuing for the two restaurant cars, the observation lounge and the single set of doors at every scenic stop. It also means 33 cabins on the entire train. When an agent tells you a departure is full, they are usually telling you the truth.

The trade-off is the fare. At RMB 138,888 Jinxiu Dongfang is the most expensive train in the panda family by a wide margin, and close to double the Jinxiu Tianfu for a route that covers broadly the same ground. Whether the extra space is worth the difference depends on how much of the journey you intend to spend inside the train rather than outside it.

The Five Cars

The train is arranged as five named spaces, each carrying a literary name in the Han and Tang register the design leans on.

Ya Shaocheng 雅少城

The reception car. An octagonal gilded ceiling, a sun-bird motif set into the floor, and a welcome tea service on boarding.

Ju Huajian 居花间

The accommodation car. Around 15 m2 per cabin, finished either in a panda theme or in the Han and Tang register, three cabins to a car.

Wei Jinyan 味锦宴

The main restaurant, carrying Sichuan flavours across the journey.

Zun Jingong 尊锦宫

The second restaurant, styled as a Han and Tang palace banquet hall. Two restaurant cars on one train is a first for a Chinese tourist train, and it is the feature the operator is pushing hardest.

Lan Yunque 览云阙

The observation and bar car, which converts to a performance space in the evening.

Cabin Categories

Ju Huajian · Deluxe Double Suite (居花间)

The single published cabin category. Around 15 m2 with an en-suite bathroom, offered in a panda themed or a Han and Tang themed finish. Cabin count and the split between the two finishes have not been published.

Cabin Standard Inclusions

Two halves of Xinjiang. North of the range is landscape: Kanas, Hemu, the Ili valley and Sayram Lake. South is the Silk Road: Kuqa, the ancient kingdom of Kucha, and Kashgar, with the Pamir plateau beyond. A programme that covers both is the one worth the days. Two notes for overseas travellers: the Bayanbulak section of the Duku Highway is not open to foreign passports (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan documents travel the full route), so those sectors run on a substitute routing for foreign-passport guests, and the Pamir sectors require an electronic border permit, arranged by your operator rather than by you. See the Xinjiang destination guide.

Routes & Departures

2027 Published8 departures, May to Sep

One itinerary is published for 2027: a 16-day circuit covering both halves of Xinjiang, departing Chengdu. The stated routing runs through Baihaba, Kanas and Altay, the Ahe and Tiejia highways, Yining, Urumqi, Sayram Lake, the Yizhao highway, the Mengket ancient road, Kuqa, the Duku highway, Kashgar, the Kiziliya Grand Canyon and the Pamir plateau.

Duku Highway access for overseas travellers. The Duku Highway is open to mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan travel documents. The Bayanbulak section alone is not open to holders of foreign passports; where an itinerary includes that section, foreign-passport guests travel a substitute routing arranged by the operator. Where an itinerary includes the Duku crossing, overseas guests travel a substitute routing arranged by the operator. Ask which routing applies to your specific departure, and confirm it in writing, before paying a deposit. Read the full Duku Highway guide.

The operational pattern is the one that makes rail work here: travel by night, explore by day, return to the same cabin every evening. As with the rest of the panda family, there is no public ticket channel. Cabins are allocated through authorised agents, and you should confirm the fare, the cabin layout and the inclusion list in writing before paying a deposit.

Position in the Panda Express Family

The panda fleet now spans a wide price band, and the logic is cleaner than it first looks. All three of the family's luxury trains start in Chengdu and all three run Xinjiang, so the choice is about space and attention rather than destination.

Jinxiu Dongfang 锦绣东方号

66 guests, approx. 15 m2 cabins, two restaurant cars. From RMB 138,888. First season 2027. This train.

Jinxiu Tianfu 锦绣天府号

92 guests, 13 m2 top cabin, Shu brocade and Song dynasty design. From RMB 79,880. View Jinxiu Tianfu →

Panda Express · Chengdu 成都号

108 guests, 10 m2 top cabin, the established premium workhorse. From RMB 66,999. View Chengdu →

If the density argument appeals and the price does not, the Jinxiu Tianfu covers much the same scenery for close to half the fare. If you want the largest suites on the network rather than the fewest neighbours, the Silk Road Express still holds that title at up to 22 m2. Our fleet ranking covers where each train lands once it has a season behind it.

Caveats on These Specifications

We would rather flag these than paper over them, because a new train always has gaps between the brochure and the boarding pass. Our full list of what remains unconfirmed, and why, is in the 2027 debut analysis.

Booking & Tailor-Made Travel

China Expresses is an authorised travel curator and booking partner for the Panda Express family. Because this is a first season, we are holding a register of interest rather than selling fixed allocation: tell us your preferred departure and we will confirm the cabin, the fare and the inclusion list the moment the operating plan is settled, before any deposit is due.

We can also extend the rail journey with a Chengdu pre-extension or a Kanas post-extension, and design fully tailor-made Sichuan plus Xinjiang itineraries around any sailing. Our booking guide walks through the sequence, and the departures calendar lists everything currently on sale across the fleet.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Its first season is 2027, with eight departures published between 17 May and 30 September. Until a season has run and the dates and fares are confirmed, we do not place it in our fleet ranking, so you will not find it in the ordered list on The Fleet.
Capacity and dining. Jinxiu Dongfang carries 66 guests against 92, in cabins of around 15 m2 against 13 m2 at the top tier, and it has two restaurant cars against one. The design language differs too, Han and Tang rather than Shu brocade and Song. Both run a 16-day Chengdu to Xinjiang circuit; the Dongfang fare is roughly double.
The rail journey and cabin, all meals across both restaurant cars, the full day-tour programme with attraction tickets and fast-track entry, ground transport at one vehicle per cabin, hotel accommodation on the Xinjiang leg, and the dual-guide, butler and photographer team. International flights, visas, travel insurance and personal expenses are not included.
Jinxiu Dongfang is a China Railway Chengdu Group product. Panda Roam (攀达漫迹) is the brand that handles promotion and distribution for the panda family; it is not the carrier. As with every train on this site, we list the railway and its state tourism partner as the operator rather than the distribution brand.
The panda family has run a high proportion of inbound guests since 2025, and English-speaking guides and butlers are standard across the fleet. Because this train has not yet carried guests, we would confirm the language provision and the onboard medical cover in writing for your specific departure before booking. Our visa guide covers entry formalities.
Use the enquiry button on this page or the contact page, naming your preferred 2027 departure. We will confirm availability, the cabin layout and the final fare once the operating plan is settled, and no deposit is due until then.

Jinxiu Dongfang runs the same frontier as our Panda to the Frontier journey, from Sichuan panda country to the Xinjiang borderlands, with fewer neighbours on board.
